A rabbit/bandicoot farm?

Do we need a rabbit/bandicoot farm? - we do need a central rabbit place - maybe a rabbit farm. And we do need to encourage the community to discover what is not there - the bandicoots and quolls etc...

  • What would it mean to have a safe, well-fenced area where kids can come and play with rabbits. Perhaps they could drop off rabbits they have found/caught so those rabbits have a safe place to live. It could be a tourist attraction, surely? Perhaps the Bellarine Animal Welfare people could help? If rabbits need to be registered, they could help - and sell lots of lovely things for caring for rabbits? Could rabbits be steralised there and taken home as pets?

Do we need a bandicoot farm as well? Who knows what these animals look like, how they are threatened on the one hand and supported on the other.

  • What would it mean to have a safe haven for the indigenous animals so kids could come and play with them, get to know them, do science and history and environmental and other projects related to them?

The CALP Act covers the having of a rabbit farm etc - it is doable!

The Mt Rothwell Landcare volunteers look after the place - do we have the stamina and expertise to offer something so inspiring to the Bellarine residents and visitors?
