Why 'control populations' and not remove all rabbits?

The Rabbit Sweep aims to get the populations of rabbits under control. This recognises that it would be fanciful to imagine eliminating all rabbits. Controlled populations will need maintenance annually but this should be easy once the populations are not out of control.

It should be noted that the effects rabbits have depends significantly on the country in which they are and the use of that country. Very few rabbits in mulga country can do enormous amounts of damage and so the number that are tolerable by the environment is very low whereas some other environments can absorb the effect of many more rabbits.

How much do rabbits eat? what do they eat? what do they prefer to eat?

What does a balanced population look like and how long might it take to achieve it?
