Are pet rabbits a problem?
There is no doubt that pet rabbits are good pets - manageable, friendly, house-trainable, .... but what if they escape or are 'let free'?
There is no substantial evidence that suggests pet rabbits thrive or even survive in the wild in numbers that matter.
On the other hand, allowing/encourging having breeding pets that are so closely related to wild rabbits might be a serious issue for the Rabbit Sweep project.
How many children who have rabbits as pests know about bilbies? bandicoots, and the other cute animals that used to live on the Bellarine? How can we, as a community, com to know the animals that rather than destroy the environment, actually help maintain it?
