Tell us what you did and learnt!

This page is for stories of experiences from which we can learn. Some of these have been successful activities, but some of them have been a mistake - try to avoid repeating the mistake! Also, some stories might be about inventions - like the clever smoker made by the Bellarine Landcare farmers Dick and Bob. We are keen, when inventions come along that show promise, to help make them things of benefit to all of us.

If you have a story, please send it to us with a picture, if that makes sense. You can attach the picture to the email

Here is what my friend did when trying to get rid of rabbits coming from the neighbour's property. First, he found where the rabbits were coming and going under the fence. He put a possum trap up near the fence so that if a rabbit came under the fence into his property, it would find some ruffled up soil and the entrance to the trap. Slowly the number of rabbits coming into his garden decreased and then became zero!

My friend credited the scuffled soil at the entrance to the trap for the readiness of the rabbits to enter the trap.

Note: there were no baits, nothing to threaten the lives of other animals, and if a possum or something else went into the trap, it could easily be released.
